Yu-Ai Kai Keiro Kai
October 10, 2009
San Jose Buddhist Church
Keiro Kai is an annual event sponsored by Yu-Ai Kai. In Japanese, “kei” means to honor or respect, and “ro” means elderly, thus the term "keiro" means to honor the elderly. In Japan, Keiro Day, a national holiday. is celebrated in mid-September with many events honoring and paying tribute to the elderly citizens of their nation. Yu-Ai Kai tries to carry on this beautiful cultural tradition locally by taking time out once a year to show their appreciation to the seniors in our community for all that they have done for us.
This year's event was held on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the San Jose Buddhist Church annex. About 700 seniors, aged 75 and older, who are current members of either the West Valley JACL or Yu-Ai Kai Senior Clubs received invitations to attend the Keiro dinner as guests. They had delicious obento, red/white manju, entertainment and a small gift for each of the attending Honorees.
